More about the course

Ana Esteban (below) has specialised in teaching Business Spanish over the last 10 years.

"More and more people are taking the course," says Ana. "Partly it's because Spanish is becoming increasingly important in the business world, for both Spain and Latin American."

"Partly it's because lots of people see Barcelona as being a desirable place to live and work. But if you want to work in a Spanish firm in Barcelona, an official language qualification is very much a requisite."

What's the course like? "It's quite intense," says Ana. "There's a huge amount of vocabulary - though a lot of it has come from English, so anyone familiar with the business world will be at an advantage."

"We cover a lot in a short period of time," Ana explains: "How to write a CV in Spanish and a cover letter, the stock market, the economy in general, the tax system..."

Business culture "One of the most interesting things, especially with students from all over the world in the class, is to compare and contrast the different business cultures."

"How different nationalities negotiate, for example, particularly how we negotiate in Spain," Ana says "is always one of the things people find most interesting."

 

 

 

Business Spanish course in Barcelona

Business Spanish

The intensive Business Spanish course IH Barcelona offers consists of 4 or 6 hours tuition per day for 2 weeks (40 or 60 hours).

If you take the 60-hour course, you can also choose to take an exam at the end of the second week which is organised by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the University of Alcalá.

On the 60-hour course, you should expect a significant amount of class time to be spent on activities designed to help you prepare for the exam.

About the business exam

The exams are available at two levels, Certificado Básico, and Certificado Superior.

The lower of the two levels (Básico) recognises that students have a basic competence in Business Spanish which should allow them to perform routine tasks in a Business context.

The second level (Superior) recognises a more advanced level of competence and familiarity with the technical language used in the Business world. The exams are held in the school on the Saturday at the end of the course.

Each exam currently costs €145 (subject to change). Please note that the exam fee is not included in the course fee.

The starting dates for these Business Spanish courses are as follows:

• July 2, 2012

The price of your Spanish course includes registration, level test, classes, all course materials, our programme of social and cultural activities, certificates, student card and access to all the school's facilities.

The prices quoted do not include entrance fees and transport on excursions.

Minimum level

The minimum level required to attend these Business Spanish Courses is Intermediate.

Intensive Spanish + Business Spanish course

We also offer students the possibility of an intensive Spanish course of 2 or more weeks combined with a Business Spanish course.

The intensive course will help students improve their overall level of competency in Spanish, while the Business course will focus more specifically on developing competency levels in a range of work-related activities.

The starting dates for these combined Business Spanish courses are as follows:

• 2 or more weeks before the Business Spanish course starts (see above)
