Your social and cultural program in San Sebastian
We have a full social programme of activities for our Spanish students all year round. All our students are invited to participate, whichever course they are on, although the younger students on our Junior program have a separate programme.
We don't actually suggest you go to Hemingway's nearby Pamplona for the running of the bulls (pictured, right), though it is a popular day trip with our students...
June to September
The social programme is based on two week cycles corresponding to the starting dates for intensive courses:
First week
- Monday: Welcome party and guided tour of city
- Tuesday: Cultural or sports activity
- Wednesday: Cultural activity
- Thursday: Sports
- Saturday: Full day trip
Second week
- Tuesday: Half day excursion
- Wednesday: Cultural activity/video in the school
- Thursday: Sports
- Saturday: Farewell party
Rest of the year
During the rest of the year, the social programme is run on monthly cycles. We organise a group activity weekly and one weekend trip a month:
First week
- Monday: Welcome party
- Tuesday: Guided tour of city
- Saturday: Full day trip
Second week
- Wednesday: Video in school
- Thursday: Dance lesson
- Friday: Farewell party
Third Week
- Monday: Welcome party
- Tuesday: Guided tour of city
- Saturday-Sunday: Weekend trip
Fourth week
- Wednesday: Cultural activity
- Thursday: Sports
- Friday: Farewell party

Full weekend trips
- Skiing in the Pyrenees
- Trekking in the Irati or Baztan valley in Navarre
- Trekking and surfing in Mundaka
- Trips to Asturias, Zaragoza, Madrid or Barcelona
One-day trips
- The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao
- Pamplona (famous for its San Fermines, the running of the bulls, see image, above)
- Biarritz, an elegant resort in the south of France
- San Juan de Luz, a lovely little town across the French border
Half-day excursions
- Fuenterrabía, an enchanting old fishing town
- Guernika, the historic town famous from the Picasso painting
- San Sebastian and the fabulous views of it from Igueldo, Peine de los Vientos and Miramar
- Zarauz, a surfers' paradise
Cultural/Social activities
- A Spanish film, either in the school or at the cinema
- Popular festivals, rock concerts...
- Lectures in the school
- The cultural offering of the week, depending on what is on in the town
Sports
- Football or volleyball on the beach
- Cycling (mountain biking)
- Canoeing in the bay
- Playing "pelota vasca"
