IH Costa de la Luz-La Janda Spanish school

The Vejer language school building dates from the middle of the nineteenth century and is constructed on top of the ancient Moorish town walls.

Large sections of these walls, which were built in the eleventh century, have been conserved, including the watchtower, which overlooks our garden.

The school has two Andalusian interior patios, a garden (shown, right) with orange trees, jasmine and bougainvillaea, a terrace facing south across rolling countryside and an enormous azotea, or roof, with views in all directions, from Medina Sidonia in the north to Morocco in the south.

All these areas are available for the use of students.

Student profile

Judging from past years, the main nationalities we expect to have as students in 2006 are as follows:

• English speaking countries: 25%
• German speaking countries: 18%
• Scandinavia: 20%
• Japan: 5%
• Other European countries: 32%

Note that the mix of nationalities does vary from one year to the next.

In terms of their age, our students range from 17 to 70, with the average age normally being 20 to 28.

The number of students enrolled at any one time varies between 25 people in low season (November to February) to 80 in high season (June to September).

Holidays

2006
Classes will not be held or recuperated on the following National Holidays: October 12, November 1 and December 8 and 25.

2007
February 28, April 6 (Easter), April 20, May 1 and 7, August 15, October 12, November 1, December 6 and 25.

Festivities of Special Interest in Vejer (on which classes will be held) are as follows:

• Easter Sunday, the "día del toro embolao"
• Feria de Primavera (Spring Fair, April)
• June 1, Colegio de Español La Janda's Birthday
• Velada de Nuestra Señora de la Oliva (mid-August)
• Festival de Flamenco (August, exact dates to be confirmed)

Early booking is recommended for students who wish to come during any of these festivities.

We are open year-round, except for the first two weeks in January.
